Since all 10 items were very important to surviving training camp, this list is in no particular order!
1.Journal- The 10 days were jam packed with short sessions on other cultures and religions, missional living, discipleship, evangelism, and much more, so my journal was a necessity! The Lord also spoke some pretty amazing truths to me this week and I was able to experience God in mind blowing ways that I will never forget.
2. Headbands- Aka sweat catchers that are absolutely necessary when you are outside in Georgia in July all day. I sweated the days away having dance parties and bonding with my amazing team.
Meet Team Huzzah!
3. Snacks- Every day brought a new food adventure, from crickets to 100-year-old eggs to beans and rice in a ziplock bag. While the food was mostly very good, a granola bar was a relief on some days.
4. Headlamp- Bucket showers in the forest at 11pm can get pretty dark as well as the port-a-potties at 3am!
5. All things orange- My squad’s color was orange, so of course we needed to represent, especially because WE WON SQUAD WARS! Squad Wars is a series of games and competitions, including a dance off, between all the World Race squads, and through hard work and teamwork, we came out victorious!
T-squad forever!
6. Tennis shoes- To crush the 2.2 mile hike for the fitness requirement with my 35 pound pack!
7. Chacos- We had some pretty amazing worship sessions, and you gotta stay strapped in to worship and dance for our Lord! (oh, and to walk up and down the very hilly Adventures campus!)
8. My backpacking pillow- My pillow not only gave my neck wonderful support as I slept on the ground in my tent most nights, but it also compacts very small so I could transport it easily. You might ask, where would you need to take it? Well, at training camp we had different field scenarios for sleeping, so I brought my amazing pillow with me to community tent night- cramming 15 girls and 15 internal frame backpacks into a 8 person tent. I brought it to lost baggage night- my bag got “lost at the airport” but it’s a good thing my pillow could fit in my daypack! And lastly I carried it to airport night- we all spent the night inside a large room with bright lights and loud noises and attempted to sleep using just things in our day packs (once again, my trusty pillow could fit in my small backpack)!
9. Tissues (I may have had to take a couple rolls of toilet paper out of porta potties when I ran out, but I’m still glad I brought them)- There wasn’t a single day that I didn’t cry at training camp over how AMAZING our God is. They also came in handy when i got hit with a pretty bad head cold and allergies on day 3, but were mostly used to mop up the tears during the best worship sessions I’ve ever experienced.
10. A yes in my spirit- While training camp was very hard, it was also one of the best experiences of my life, and I chose to say yes to many things in two weeks. Yes to loving, supporting, and walking in Christ with my 47 squad mates. Yes to surrendering everything in my life to God. Yes to letting the Lord speak into my life. And yes to not just living a missional lifestyle for the next 9 months, but for the rest of my life.
I also have a very exciting announcement; I am officially fully funded!
Thank you all so much for supporting me and helping me reach my goal. God is so good!
