Hello my friends, we have made it to Myanmar and we are getting settled in to the culture here! The people are so friendly and helpful, although, we do recieve our fare share of stares, especially in non-touristy areas. We have made some friends in just a few days being here so that’s been super cool.

The travel from Chiang Mai Thailand to Yangon Myanmar was a bit of an adventure. We took a bus from Chiang Mai to a city just outside the border of Myanmar, and we proceeded to pack 23 people and every pack onto a 12-seater truck. We made it to the border safely with every pack in tow!

It was about 4-5 p.m. by the time we made it across the border to Myanmar, and our next bus, the one taking us to Yangon wouldn’t depart until 8 p.m. So we hung out, played games, walked around, and watched Rocky Balboa on a Burmese tv channel.

We drove all night to Yangon, I had both bus seats to myself 😉 the key is to be one of the first people on the bus, head to the back, and claim your spot, and fight for it. Just kidding… kinda.

I actually ended up sleeping thanks to my friend Benadryl, he’s great. We got to Yangon about 7 a.m.

We actually don’t arrive to our ministry hosts until the 7th. Our mentor sent us out on a mission to do some pioneering. We are supposed to get information about Myanmar, the spiritual atmosphere, try to see if there are any ministries we can partner with, and so on. It’s kind of like an ATL week.

What my team will be doing for the 2 weeks with our host is teaching English at a college. We had made some friends with some university students a couple days ago, sweetest things ever, so I’m pretty excited about this ministry.

That’s about it so far. I do have a lot of peace being in this city, which I don’t know what I was expecting, but peace wasn’t it. So that was a nice surprise.

It’s pretty freaking hot here too, the sun is relentless.

Catch ya later,

Meggo
