Today I turn 18 which means I am an adult. Crazy to think about the fact that next year at this time I will be in Costa Rica probably speaking Spanish horribly and praising God for all he’s done.
As I turn 18 there are a few things I wanna share with you about me.
The first one is I have only been a Christian for a little over a year and a half. My faith is new, but God has already changed me. When I was 16 years old you wouldn’t have seen me at church, and you definitely wouldn’t have heard me talking about Jesus. You would’ve seen a girl who thought she had it all figured out when in reality her life was going to be radically transformed by God.
The second thing about me is that two years ago today I would’ve told you my birthday is the most important day in the world. Now I realize that it is not. Easter Sunday is the most important day in everyone’s existence. It is the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead and there is almost no day more important than that day. (except for Jesus’s birthday, those are equally important)
The third thing isn’t about me. It’s about who I could’ve been without Caleb stepping into my life and bringing me to church. Statistics show that people typically become Christians before their 18th birthday. Around the time most people turn 18 they have their beliefs down in their mind. However, this statistic is what I want to change. It is a big part of the reason I am going on this mission trip. I want to make sure kids know who God is before they put in their mind that they don’t or will not believe in him. Through God my team and I will teach children about God, but neither Q squad nor God will give up on those who are past the age of 18. It is statistically proven that less people become Christians after the age of 18, but with a God that can move mountains, I know that He will place His truth in my teams hearts and His truth in the hearts of those who need it most.
Today and every day I get to claim that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. Today and forevermore I get to spread the gospel no matter where I am. Today I realize that my birthday is nothing without God who knitted me together in my mother’s womb and knew me before anyone else.
Thank you God for the gift of life, and thank you for showing me a love greater than anything else.
If you have read this blog thank you. I will leave you with my favorite verse.
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
