Where are you?

A question that indicates that someone has been lost or someone that wishes to be found. How many of us have asked this question? How many of us have felt that somehow we got lost and desperately wish to be found?

A picture comes to mind with this question. Someone walking in the middle of a snow storm. They can’t see any more than two feet in front of them. All they feel is fear because they’ve lost sight of someone. They could hear their voice but they don’t know which direction to walk towards and as time passes, it feels more and more distant.

It’s the question we scream when everything in our world is going wrong. We stop or stopped speaking to God. We lose our vision. Hopelessness and despair crawl right in. When we lose our vision, we can’t see where we are heading. We only see the ground beneath us and our condition. We can’t see if anybody else is out there hurt. We can’t see past our own hurt, past our own pain and as time passes, we feel more and more distant from God.

We can’t see so who would blame us if we stopped walking? Who would blame us if we isolated ourselves and built walls up that no one would dare try to get over and those that do dare, wish they didn’t? Who would blame us if, after years of battling depression, we can no longer see the goal, the end, and choose to stop fighting? Who would blame us? After all, we are just human.

Here’s the thing about this question. It requires a response from the other person. That person we are looking for has to answer in order for us to find them.

The bible says in Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT)

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

No one would blame us if we no longer continued our journey, but would you prefer staying in the cold and lonely snow storm? Or would you rather continue calling out, asking Him “Where are you?!”?

The keyword in that verse is “Keep”. It’s a command to continue asking, seeking, and knocking on His door so He could reveal Himself to us and give us everything we need.

Even as adults, when we need something we keep asking, seeking and knocking on each others’ door. At times, it could be something we really don’t need, but we want. Yet when it comes to doing this with God, we tend to say “Ok, God. If you don’t want to give it to me, it’s fine. If you don’t want to give me that healing, financial miracle, child, etc, it’s alright. I’ll just pray for other things.”

You are right. God’s not going to just give it to you. You have to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking, repeat, and repeat. It’s work. If we don’t work, we won’t appreciate it.

Continue walking, following that loving voice, and you will find what you seek. He will lead you out of the blinding storm and restore your vision as you go through the process. It may not be in the way you expected it, but it will surpass any idea or thought you had.

Do not lose your hope. Do not lose your faith. He will restore what was once broken. You have to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking.
