Like I’ve said before we worked with an organization called OM. Three of the four people we worked with came the day before we left and gave us this awesome orientation and it was a time to get to know them more. They are truly incredible people and it was so much fun serving alongside them.
Diego /
He was in charge and called the shots the whole week. He is a big part of OM and is in charge of the location we were at. Diego is amazing. He lives in San Jose but goes over about every two weeks which is why OM has incredible relationships with all the locals in Talamanca. Going to each house, Diego would have these conversations with each member of the house as if he was catching up with old friends. His heart is huge for these people and it is so evident in the way he lives and leads. Each of the houses always praised Diego and thanked him for the visit because he is the only one who does visit and he always brings teams to bring church and love to each of these houses. I’ve only met three people who truly are head over heels in love with Jesus and live a life dedicated to living in passionate obedience to God and he is one of them. He doesn’t ever think about himself or how tiring his life is. He’s constantly on the move bringing Jesus to whomever needs him. He has such a yes in his spirit and will go the extra mile to reach the unreachable. He led us in prayer and worship and it was always so spirit filled and passionate. Diego taught me so much and I thank God for that week where he pushed us into places to depend more on the Lord.
Andrea /
She was one of our translators for the trip. She lives in San Jose as well and comes every once and awhile to translate for OM. Cool fact, Andrea is an 11n11 Alumni and came off the field last spring. She actually spent the month of January in Ethiopia at Hopethopia… WHATTT??!!. It was so cool to see her pictures with the kids we love so, so dearly. She and her squad painted the children’s village sign that we absolutely loved and wondered who painted! She was such a good translator and was so kind!
Jose /
He was our other translator but the difference between Jose and Andrea is he works full time for OM. He comes about every month with a team and is the permanent translator. He also did all of the photography. He had crazy cool gear from a bag full of lenses to even a drone. He was always snapping photos and getting cool shots. (We’re trying to get all the photos right now, hopefully I can share all of those soon).
He was so funny and we loved joking around with him.
Hernon /
Ahhh Hernon. Cutest old man I’ve ever seen. He was our driver for the whole week but let me tell ya, don’t let his cuteness fool you! He drives like a WILD man! I thought that I had seen crazy driving in Nicaragua with Julio but this racheted up a thousand levels. At first it was the scariest but the most thrilling thing ever but the more we drove with him the more we got used to it, making it just thrilling. The thing is, jungle roads aren’t really roads. It’s more like rocks making a path. So as you can imagine it was super bumpy. On top of that he floored it to the point where you better hold on!!
Around the fourth day we were driving and hit a massive bump in the road and we all went flying. Diego was in the trunk with all of us and he yelled so hard at Hernon, “SLOW DOWNNN”, and the funniest part of all was Hernon just laughed!
Hernon was so great and loved playing jokes on people. During meals he was always putting bugs on people or tapping one shoulder and being by the other. Man, oh, man would he laugh! He was so funny! He lives at the base full time and has a cute little room. 🙂
It would not have been the week it was without these amazing servants and I thank you Jesus for each of them!
