The bad news is that I’m a terrible person. I am a mess, I am broken, and I have hurt people.
The bad news is that if you are reading this, or if you’re a human, you’re the same.
The bad news is that my parents, siblings, friends, grandparents, and great-great-great-great-great grandparents…they, too, are terrible, broken, messy, hurting and hurtful people.
The bad news is that it’s been this way since right after the first men and women were on earth, and this caused God (humans’ Father and Creator) a tremendous amount of pain, because He created them for love.
The bad news is that no matter what happened in the first stage of humanity, we could not reconcile ourselves to the perfection of God or the kindness of each other.
Nothing we did worked.
We tried harder, to no avail.
We ran low on hope, and became convinced that there was no way – no WAY – God or anyone could fix this.
The good news is that we are finite, and our hope for a redeemed future could not match God’s extravagant love.
The good news is that God, as Creator, is creative, and came up with a plan to reconcile creation to Himself as Father.
A crazy plan, but a plan none the less.
The good news is that His plan was to be with us on earth to understand our pain as the Son of God, who is called Jesus the Christ, who is Love.
The good news is that He lived a perfect life, never before seen in the history of humanity, and loved the Father and was loved by the Father and loved others like the Father in His time here.
The hard news is this: that Jesus offered up His perfect life on a Roman cross, the most brutal of murders, to die as an unblemished sacrifice for us, the terrible people.
And the Father wept as He watched His only, beloved, perfect Son give His life for terrible people.
But here is the Good News: after Jesus died, He didn’t stay dead!
He rose from it, conquering sin, death, the grave, and their ruler in the process!!
He rose from the FREAKING DEAD, of His own power, by His own authority, so that we, the terrible people, could be reconciled to our Father in heaven through a new, holy, forgiven, merciful, exciting life!!!
The Good News is that JESUS IS ALIVE!!!!
The Great News is that His Name has unmatched power, and if you take a second to say that out loud to yourself, that JESUS IS ALIVE and if you actually believe it and declare it, your life will never be the same!!!!!
