Hey, all.

Being that the Race is over halfway done, I’ve started reflecting on all the things God has been doing in my life on this journey. But the coolest thing about the Race is that when I signed up for this, I also volunteered my family and friends for a crazy journey, too. I would love to give you their perspectives in a new series: The View Stateside. I want you to know what some of the most important people in my life have seen in this year, too. With that, please welcome my first guest blogger and my fiance, Trevor Stout. Isn’t it fitting his blog appeared on Valentine’s Day?? 😉

Why did I agree to this?

I willingly put myself into a year-long absence from my fiance. That means one year without holding hands, kisses, tired McDonald’s runs. One year without my best friend. Who in their right mind would do that to themselves?

“Maybe it won’t be so bad,” I told myself. “Think of all the time you’ll get to yourself. You won’t ever want to be alone again after one whole year.” While that might be true for Future Me, Present Me is hurting and very lonely.

So again, why did I agree to this? As an extrovert, being lonely is literally the worst feeling. How could I go into this kind of a challenge? Certainly I’m not strong enough for that…

So why did I agree to this, amidst all the fears I had about it?

Because Marah and I serve a God who is good. We serve a God who knew that we needed this time apart so we could grow in our own ways. A God who more people in the world need to see and hear and know and love. A God who takes the fears we both have about this part of the journey and uses them to make us stronger. A God we can trust.

The last seven months have not been easy. In fact, they’ve probably the hardest seven months of my life. But, God has always reminded me that this circumstance is not forever, and that has helped to comfort me and trust Him even more than I already did.

Why did I agree to this? Because God is bigger than the hard parts, and because GOD IS GOOD.

-Trevor
