A little over two weeks ago, I celebrated Christmas on another continent, away from my family, for the second time in my life. It was not the easiest day of my life, but thanks to our incredible hosts, we still had a fun-filled day with family to celebrate Jesus coming to earth!
To tell you a little more about our experience, please enjoy this song, to the tune of “Africa”, by Toto, inspired by Straight No Chaser’s rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Feel free to sing along with the karaoke accompaniment *here*.
We watched A Christmas Story tonight
To celebrate our Christmas Eve with yummy cinnamon pastries
Lit a candle shining bright
And prepared to preach and sing for service in the morning
We woke up on Christmas Day
Hoping to find some snow but here it was almost seventy
Trevor’s letter to me did say, “Baby, I am waiting here for you!”
We got in a van to go to Christmas Church
Played “Silent Night” and Clayton preached the Word
We spent Christmas down in Africa
Never gonna forget about the awesome day we had…
After the service we took flight
To Grandma’s house we’re longing for some familiar company
I know that it might not feel right
But there’s nothing to cure homesickness like good time spent with family
I seek to cure what’s deep inside,
but I feel like I am coming home
It’s gonna take a lot to teach me to cook this food
Nsima and goat guts but I don’t mean to be crude
We spent Christmas down in Africa
Never gonna forget about the awesome day we had…
Christmas Day was soccer, music and food
Back at home enjoyed a book in jammies eating ‘za
There’s nothing that I could have done at home I didn’t do
I spent Christmas down in Africa
I spent Christmas down in Africa
(On Christmas Day)
I spent Christmas down in Africa
(I was amazed)
I spent Christmas down in Africa
I spent Christmas down in Africa
(Ah, never gon’ forget)
Never gonna forget about the awesome day we had…
