Instead of a typical, long-winded post this week, I thought it would be fun to show you my home for eleven months starting in October!
This is a question I’ve been getting a lot, “are you really living in a tent for eleven months?!” Odds are, no. But, the World Race is designed to keep you on your feet so I really don’t know where I will be sleeping each month. It could be in a bed with four walls, or it could be in the great outdoors in the tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag you just watched me struggle to assemble! That’s the beauty of the Race, every country, every month will look vastly different from the last. Remember in my last post when I said I was ready for change?!
For reference, I used time lapse so assembling my tent took about thirty minutes. When condensed into twenty seconds I actually somewhat look like I know what I’m doing, but don’t let that fool you! I have literally never been camping, slept in a tent, or even slept outdoors in my life. The fact that I am willingly preparing myself to potentially do so for a good portion of a year of my life is 100% of the Lord. Not at all me. To be completely honest, the World Race definitely tops my list of things I NEVER imagined myself doing for mostly that very reason. So, for the past few weeks as I’ve been slowly emptying my bank account and purchasing my gear, I’ve also been trying to prepare myself for something so far outside of my comfort zone. For me, that looks like learning how to assemble a tent, asking the Lord to redirect my heart and attitude to that of minimalism, attempting to abandon my basic American white girl tendencies, and most importantly, trying not to cry anymore when I see a spider. (It’s the little things.)
brb going to watch movies and read Harry Potter in my tent forever. I’m hoping I’ll still like it as much when I actually try it outdoors.
