Thailand, otherwise known as the land of smiles. I had absolutely no idea what to expect coming into Thailand. Literally no idea. I couldn’t set an expectation because I had none. All I knew was we were living in the city for a few days and then all splitting up for our ministries. So we stayed in chiang mai for a few days and its DOPE. I’m obsessed with milk tea, its amazing and the culture is so so cool. One thing that took me by surprise is how quiet it is here. We lived in the city and it was so quiet. We would go to the night market and i didn’t have to raise my voice once even though there were a lot of people there. I liked it, its quiet and its calm. It makes me less anxious. Anyways, we spent a few days there and it was really fun and really cool. We visited a temple and it was breathtaking. The detail in the statues and the buildings was insane.
Fast forward to Mae Ai. Bro, I LOVE MAE AI. We are four hours from the chiang mai and on the other side of the mountain that we live by is Myanmar. I am just living with my team in a comfy house right across from the school we teach at, Bankai. Our house has three rooms, one of them being outside, which is where me and maggie sleep. We sleep on our sleeping pads and have a microwave, a leaking fridge, a squatty potty, a bucket shower and we have to buy our own drinking water because it is not safe to drink here. I AM THRIVING. The town we live in I would describe as a small ghost town and no one knows any English. We live behind a small restaurant by a man who kindly makes us chicken pad Thai every night because we can’t say anything else and he doesn’t understand anything else, its amazing (and its only 30 baht!). The nights are quiet and the sunrises, sunsets, and the stars are absolutely beautiful.
Our ministry is amazing. I absolutely love it. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays two of us go to school at 7am and stand outside of the gate and greet kids for an hour and we teach monday – friday from 8am – 4pm. Our team is split up into three groups because we teach kindergarten, primary, and secondary. Before school starts, the school band marches out and all 300 kids line up in front of the flag and say their pledge and give their respects to the king. Then we all split up and go to our classes. Mac, Erika, and I are teaching primary this week. I love the kids that we teach, they are the cutest nuggets in the whole world. The kids are very good at writing english, understanding grammar, and speaking basic english phrases. We help teach the kids how to pronounce and speak some words that are more difficult to say, but other than that they are extremely smart. We just started our ministry this week so I don’t have too much information to give you, but I can’t wait to tell you more about it next week. But I just wanted to give you guys a little update, so thanks for reading.
Love, Mady
I still have $2,000 until I am fully funded! Our deadline is coming up on January 15th and I would really like to meet it before then. Please prayerfully consider donating even just a few dollars, anything helps honestly. If donating isnt an option for you, please just pray for me, my team, and the squad. Thank you!
