WOW! Do I have somethin’ good for you. It will be short and sweet.
Yesterday, my life was turned upside down. In a good way, of course. A really good way.
While helping with homeless outreach, I met a man named Billy. Most call him Jack because he dresses up like Jack Sparrow everyday and plays with fire in the streets of Penang. He’s the type of guy that you would think you shouldn’t mess with or talk to, but he is a huge bundle of joy. For some reason, I was automatically drawn to him. All I wanted to do was talk to him. So I did just that.
Throughout our conversation, Billy just kept on talking about his love for Jesus and how much he has seen Him show up in his life. It was inspiring to say the least. I thought I was going to be the one to share the love of Jesus with him, but no. This man dropped some bombs on me and it was the highlight of my day.
“I used to be in league with the devil, but not anymore. I’m not ashamed of my low points because that’s what brought me closer to God. My biggest advice is to just carry on with God. Life is worth nothing if you don’t let Him in. God’s like an X-Ray – He can see right through you. You can’t hide. The moon are His eyes by night and the sun are His eyes by day” – sweet sweet Billy
Our entire conversation made me think – how in the world can a man who has absolutely nothing in regards to what the world tells us we need be SO darn happy and reliant on God? This man LEANS on God and talks about Him every chance he gets. To friends, strangers, young nosey missionaries like myself, etc.
It’s so cool that in the grand scheme of this entire life all we truly need is Jesus. That’s it. We don’t need a big house, fancy car, or anything the world tells us we need. Isn’t this good news!? Merry stinkin’ Christmas to you!! Here is Jesus wrapped in a beautiful bow. Jesus is so fun and easy to have. He loves when we allow Him to be our all. At the end of the day, all we need is Jesus and that was so evident while talking to Billy.
Take it from Billy – Just carry on with God. Simple and true.
Life update: my team and I arrived in Malaysia on Sunday night. We will be working with YWAM (Youth With a Mission). We will be helping serve at local churches, homeless outreach, teaching english, and children ministry. Some of us are also performing in one of the churches Christmas Eve services so hopefully I will be able to get some pictures from that to share with you. It should be hilarious. Thinking I might play the part of Joseph? 😉
Love you all so much,
Mace
