Since being in Nepal the Lord has continued to make me more and more passionate about sex trafficking. It is something I’ve always been aware of and heard about, but I’ve never been in a country like this where it is so obvious. (It is a huge deal in the United States. I’m not saying its not—it just looks different.) If I want to go to a coffee shop here, I will pass by at least ten different dance bars or strips clubs, and multiple men will ask me to go into their massage parlor’s.

Some Nepali trafficking facts:

“Trafficking victims often are taken to locations within Nepal, often from rural areas to the urban centers. Mainly young girls and women are trafficked for sexual exploitation in places such as cabin/dance restaurants, massage parlors, and other places within tourism sector.”

“The trafficking of girls from Nepal into India for forced prostitution is perhaps one of the busiest slave trafficking routes anywhere in the world, with estimated 5,000-10,000 Nepali women and girls trafficked to India each year.[12][13] An estimated 100,000-200,000 Nepali trafficked persons are in India”

Ministry in Nepal did not look like working with victims for me (only one day we were able to go to a safe house and I was sick). Regardless, just being here makes me want to start my own organization and ministry and go to every dance bar and save all of them. If only it were that easy. My main purpose for this blog is to make you all aware of this serious crime that goes on everywhere in the world.

No girl chooses within her own will to be a slave. To be touched, groped, raped, hurt. There are multiple reasons how or why a girl could end up in such a vulnerable place as being a sex slave. But each girl shares one thing in common—they are all controlled by a sex trafficker or pimp. Even if a girl is deceived to go into that “profession”, most are never able to escape. Many girls believe they will make their families money if they do this, as often times their own fathers will sell them. They soon find out they make no money and are a slave to their owner. You see this even in places like the red light district in Amsterdam and Paris. From the outside it might seem like it was fully the woman’s choice to stand in that window frame and sell their bodies. But there is always a man behind it controlling them.

In the United States we most commonly see sex trafficking in the prostitution area—not women and girls literally being ripped from their homes or being sold by their parents. But it’s still sex slavery. It’s still women being beaten and controlled. Its still disgusting in every sense. It is still tragic.

This month my team and I decided to watch the documentary Nefarious which reveals the reality of sex trafficking around the world. I recommend every single person to watch it. (It can be intense at parts). We wanted to make ourselves of the reality thats going on right around us. We wanted to have our hearts broken over it. Let us not be apathetic to the things that break Gods heart. Let us not sit back and let these women be exploited in our backyard.

I am beyond thankful to have always been kept safe from such abuses. I am so thankful to be completely free. I pray I never stop fighting for the freedom of those trapped.

Sex trafficking is the leading criminal activity in the world! As christians we cannot pretend this doesn’t happen. We can not be apathetic to such an evil act.

I would love to hear your insight on this tragedy and how we can bring freedom to these women.
