Thanksgiving. My first major holiday away from home. Ever. I truly could not expect how my heart would be. How I would handle being so far from everyone. I woke up and dug straight in to the word. I’m currently reading through Leviticus (and you know how that can be) so instead I decided to read passages all about thankfulness and joy.

I can honestly state I have never felt more joyous on any thanksgiving before. And it wasn’t for anything except Jesus—his joy and comfort is overflowing.

Now I must say though, my squad is beautiful. Everyone tried to make it as special as possible. And it was. Our common room was decorated so beautifully by simple things like cans, leaves, and sticks! We had breakfast (scrambled eggs and oatmeal, somehow my new favorite thing), drew hand turkeys, then numbered into small groups and did a photo scavenger hunt. When the time was over we had to give our photos to the judges (fellow squamates) to let them count the points for who won. During this, each group was to make a chant about thanksgiving. My team being the weird, competitive, and extra people that we are created the best chant which led to our victory!

For lunch we were served chicken salad sandwiches made by my very own teammates. It was a nice break from our pb&j sandwiches everyday. We had the afternoon free. People showered, did laundry, watched a movie, walked, read, hammocked, walked to the little store, talked, and got ready! I spent a small portion taking Tiara’s dreads out (took two days). We all tried our very best to dress up and look nice. It really felt as if friends were simply getting ready together. What a beautiful that time was!

Dinner was beyond special. I’m not sure how to describe except it was home. It was family. Just a little different.

I will never forget this thanksgiving.
