I’m in HONDURAS!
It’s also SQUAD MONTH so I am living with 35 other people + our 2 leaders!
After a long 23 hour bus ride, we are all settled in our new home for the next month.
I’ve learned that travel days are tough because sleeping on the dirty floor of a bus driving on bumpy dirt roads doesn’t make a great nights sleep, but it does make a great story to tell! I’ve never been so happy to feel the ground underneath my feet!
Once we arrived, we explored the house. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms that only sometimes work because we don’t always have running water. Living with 38 other people and only having 3 bathrooms that work when we have running water is a big challenge. Also, the majority of our squad is sick with the flu, strep throat, and one of the girls had to get her appendix taken out. So things have been quite interesting around here. I’m thankfully one of the few lucky ones who haven’t gotten sick yet!
During the weekdays, we have been going to a home for disabled adults. The first day we visited, I left almost in tears. I had never seen people who couldn’t function at all. They couldn’t communicate, they couldn’t walk, they were sitting in their own waste, and their home smelled like a barn. I was just standing there thinking “There’s nothing I can do to help these people or make their situation better. All I can do is love them, but I’m not sure how to love someone I can’t even talk to.”
My goal this month is to figure out how to connect to people and show them love without using words. I hope to learn to do the same with God. I connect with God the most through prayer, but this month I think He is teaching me how to connect with Him and other people in new ways.
