So for this blog I am doing three different sections on different things that are going on. Enjoy.
Heartbreak
About halfway through Malaysia we had a night where we did an outreach in the city of Penang. We split up into teams of 3 or 4 and went out to love people and pray for them. Our teams were each assigned an area to go to, and we got Little India, the area that we were staying in. We had from about 8pm-10:30pm to go and do outreach, but our team struggled to get direction in where we should go. We ended up walking around for a long time, and then we came upon a couple of homeless men laying under a covered walkway. CJ and I went to talk to one of the guys, who was super friendly. As we sat down I noticed that he only had one pair of extra clothes and a cardboard box to sleep on. He talked about how he has arthritis and since it gets cold at night, it hurts his knee. In that moment I felt like my heart was ripped in half. God opened my heart towards homeless people that night, because before I just kind of saw them as the poor people and I was almost bitter towards them for no reason, but God helped me realized how valuable they really are. Their stories have an impact. They are loved in the fathers eyes and they are not to be overlooked, but loved as a person that God created for a purpose, just like you and me.
HomeSICK
Malaysia was a hard country/month in general for a lot of us, but during our last week and a half there I got sick. It took going to the hospital twice that week to finally get over it, but this time of being sick was actually beneficial for me. Before then I felt like I was just going through the motions and wasn’t giving my best at ministry. I was constantly caught up in my own personal desires instead of seeing where I could help those in need. I didn’t feel close to God. During this time I also became extremely homesick and honestly just wanted to leave. It really made me think of all the comforts of home and how freakin much I miss my parents. Through this I feel like God really showed me why I came here. I came to leave my comfort zone. To step out and share the love of Chist with the world. I also feel like God has really put me here to serve my squad and pour into them. He has blessed me with these amazing people and it definitely makes being here easier.
Bienvenido a Costa Rica!
After 5 days of traveling (with layovers) we made it to Costa Rica on December 12th. Country 3 and Month 4! I can’t believe how fast our race is going by. After having a few days to catch up on sleep and get oriented, we have started ministry in a city called Heredia. For our first few days here we were staying at the AIM base in San Jose. It is really nice and the staff were super helpful in helping us get adjusted. There is a kitchen that we can use on the weekends which makes me SO happy, since I love to cook! I will post soon about how ministry is going here in Costa Rica, so keep reading my blogs!
Ways you can be praying for me:
- I will be away from my family for the first time in 18 years for Christmas, which is really hard.
- For our team to continue being intentional with each other and to dive even deeper
- Fundraising for my 3 teammates that are not fully funded. (Zach Trest, Zach Gregory, and CJ Shiner) If you would like to help them meet the deadline of being fully funded by January 15th, that would be awesome. I love each one of these guys so much and our team would not be the same without them. If you would like to donate, you can do so on the left hand side of my blog. Click on their name, which takes you to their blog, and then click the donate button at the top of the page.
Thanks so much! Y’all are awesome! Feliz Navidad!
Yours in Christ,
Landon Mullins
