Child voice 7/6 Journal Entry

Me and Shon finally arrived at Child Voice! We were in Kampala for 5 days because Shon was sick with a bacteria infection and needed some medical attention and rest. She is doing well now 🙂

This compound is beyond beautiful!!

Lots of open air, farm land with simple huts and beautiful views. Another month of simplicity and peace!

I got a tour by one of my other teammates.
This month we will be staying in huts. Honestly I could make this into my own tiny house. Add a mini kitchen and somewhere to go the bathroom and voila!

I am in a room with Aleesa and Laurie. We each have a bunk bed and it’s pretty spacey.

We went around to say hi to all the women and their babies. They were so excited for our arrival.

This month will be about building relationships and loving on the women and their babies here at the compound.

These women are here because they were left with no place to go and not knowing how to care for themselves after being affected by war and the horrible situations that came from it including rape, abusive marriages and even used as sex slaves.

The women’s ages range from 14-20 years. Many of them became orphans themselves, trying to care for a newborn baby that was a result from their traumatic pasts.

Here at the compound they focus on restoration, helping these young women learn to do all different trades, get counseling and help them learn to love themselves and their babies.

Before eating dinner that’s prepared by some of the amazing women here, Laurie and I went for a mini run and worked out. It started to downpour and instead of watching it pass by, we decided to dance in it. I love these type of moments.

Also it was great because I didn’t have to shower anymore 🙂

After dinner we headed to worship. I tried to love on the kiddos but most of them are a little timid still.

Every night they have worship. It was a blast!

They played the drums, sang and danced. They had us join in and would laugh at our attempt to dance like they do.

Seeing the women smile and laugh made my day. I just met these women and they already hold a special place in my heart.

I am excited to get to know these strong, beautiful women this month and just be present with them.

To enjoy every moment and take this all in.

We headed back to our huts after worship. It’s pitch black once the sun goes down.
The stars…OMG! If I could send an accurate picture of the night sky I would but I don’t think It would ever do justice.

God’s beauty always amazes me!
The beauty in nature and the beauty in his children.
It surely is remarkable ??
