At Training Camp last month, my leaders presented me with an opportunity that I am really excited about!
Our big squad of 28 people is divided into smaller teams of 5-6 people. My team includes four other really strong, beautiful, and brave women: Gina Marie, Joelle, Kelsey, and Landry.
I have been asked to take on a Storyteller role while I am on the field. I will learn bit more about the role at Launch next week, but I will essentially be my team’s point person for communication and reflection. I hope to be an encouraging presence on my team, offering a fresh perspective, and being really intentional about getting to know people and their stories. After all, one thing that every person desires most is to be seen, known, and understood.
So, my role will be to remind my team to pause and appreciate moments, to share the ways I see God moving, and to encourage my teammates to share how they see God moving. I will try to bring that to the forefront of our minds, and to create that space to see and act on what God is doing.
Some of the ways we may do this will be through written blogs, poems, or songs; vlogs (video blogs); photoblogs; interviews with locals; highlighting key things God is teaching us or refining in us; and highlighting other cultures and their daily realities, etc.
Last July, two months before I had heard of the World Race, I wrote a list of things that I felt were pressing on my heart. I want to share a few of those things I wrote in my journal.
Things on my heart: July 24, 2017
- seeking beauty, wonder, truth
- ministering the importance of vulnerability and sharing one’s story / one’s brokenness with others
- photography (capturing and sharing the magnitude of God’s love for us through the beauty of His creation)
- working with my hands
- starting a blog
- community
Obviously, storytelling had already been on my heart before even beginning this journey with the World Race, and I feel extremely honored and blessed to have this opportunity.
Some of you are probably aware that I love photography, and I will indeed be taking crazy amounts of photos—but lately, I have also really been desiring to try out creating videos as well.
Maybe that will be through vlogging, maybe it will include interviewing people and highlighting their culture and reality, maybe it will be through documenting daily life. It’s not going to be anything fancy and I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m really excited to try!
Fundraising update:
I now only need $891 in order to be fully funded!
WOW! THANK YOU, JESUS!
