So in the first part of this series I talked about what discipleship looks like and what it means to be a disciple (a Christian).

This particular blog I designed to be more of a tribute to the two who I have seen spiritually parent more than just their two. Mama and Daddy have always taken in all of my friends as their own children. They have encouraged them, prayed for them, gave them godly counsel, have opened up arms of hugs and hospitality, and have served like crazy. They have understood that sure, Jake and I are their children, and children by blood, but they also understand what Paul means when he addresses Timothy as his TRUE son in the faith . That is to say, true parenting goes beyond blood. Undoubtedly this was engrained into my mom, as my grandma always took in all of my mom’s, aunt’s, and uncles’ friends, neighbors, and half raised a lot of kids that were not her own. It’s because they’ve understood that we’ve been spiritually adopted into the household of faith. That we’ve been given the love of a perfect Father that we don’t deserve, and all of their words and actions over flow with that.

So here’s to all the men, women, and couples who have looked beyond your blood children, who have looked beyond your barrenness, and have spiritually parented others from convert to disciple.

Thank you Mom and Dad for being the example!
