And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 John 5:20

In the past few years I’ve come to realize I am Pro-Life in the broadest and most thorough understanding of the term.

If you’re reading this blog expecting me to mainly be talking about anti-abortion you may be disappointed, yet still challenged in a new way. Yes I am pro-life and against abortion, and my pro-life mentality 100% and definitely encompasses that.

Last week we did an activity lead by our squad mentor Ashley Francis (Never heard of her, huh?). One of the many questions was “what were your childhood dreams of a career?” I honestly had a plethora of career options that I’ve considered since the womb up until now.

She had talked about how though each dream could look vastly different, there is usually some thread of similarity sewn across them, often pointing to your life calling and purpose.

What I realized as I looked at everything from stable girl, vet, animal rescuer, marine biologist, music teacher, broadway star, music performer, counselor, coffee roaster and missionary… there was a common thread. One I never recognized but made a lot of sense.

I am a lover of life.

.

.

.

My understanding of pro-life means to be a lover and supporter of all life.

Humans,

Animals,

and Creation.

I cringed at the end of the Ted Bundy movie when the people rejoiced at his death.

I’ve cringed in more than half of the countries I’ve been to as dogs rape, attack, and aim to kill each other.

I cringed at the idea of being close to someone who potentially considered abortion.

I’ve cringed as I’ve seen trash, plastic, and paper thrown throughout the beautiful land and by the sea.

I’ve rejoiced at the Lord’s mercy to give life to those who don’t deserve it.

I rejoiced at the two little girls that I saw pet, love and cuddle the stray dog at the beach.

I rejoice in knowing that she chose to keep the baby.

I’ve rejoiced when my squad mates have chosen to follow me in not using straws.

Throughout the scriptures we have seen that our God is Pro-Life…

For Humans: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

For Animals: Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel (Proverbs 12:10).

For Creation: The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it (Genesis 2:15).

The Lord, Life Himself, has given us life and from that we flow with life and naturally should be and promote it.
