Frequently Asked Questions.
Most of you have been listening to me talk about the World Race for the past 7ish months. However, sometimes it seems there aren’t enough hours in the day (or words in my head) for me to detail out what exactly the Race is, why I’m doing it, how I’m feeling, etc. So this post is for just that. Here are some questions I’ve gotten about the Race and my [short-ish] answers to them:
1. Q: How long will you be gone?
A: 11 months. I leave at the beginning of August 2018 and will return at the end of June 2019.
2. Q: How many countries will you be going to, and what are they?
A: 11 countries-1 per month! They are (in order) Haiti, Dominican Republic, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, India, Nepal, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
3. Q: What kind of work will you be doing in each country?
A: Presently, I do not know the exact work I will be doing. This info will come later, but I know that our work can range anywhere from teaching English, evangelizing, helping with nutrition programs, working at orphanages, doing construction projects, being present in refugee communities, encouraging victims of sex trafficking-whatever is asked of us. My WR squad will partner with existing ministries in each one of the 11 countries we’re traveling to.
4. Q: Is this legit? What organization is behind the World Race?
A: 100% yes! The World Race is a mission program of the interdenominational missions organization Adventures in Missions. For more information on the organization, click here.
5. Q: OK…so why are you doing this?
A: This may be the most important answer…and also the trickiest. Since I was in high school, I’ve felt like God has been calling me to missions. I’ve done short-term trips to Haiti and Honduras over the past 9 years and have also worked at an international non-profit that does child and elder sponsorships (hello Unbound!). The World Race is an opportunity to partake in a longer missions experience as well as learn about and invest in 11 different cultures and people groups.
I feel called to go, and that may not make perfect sense to you. But as soon as I heard about this opportunity, I knew I would regret it if I didn’t pursue it. I’m not going because I hated my job (quite the opposite) or because I felt directionless or because I had nothing better to do. In reality, God has given me direction in the preparation stages of this journey. I am obeying His call on my life and am so excited to share His love and redemption around the globe! People need to hear about Jesus.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20
So yeah, I guess that about sums up that one 🙂
6. Q: Wow! This seems crazy…do you have to raise money for something like this?
A: Yep! I am currently in the process of support raising. The total I am responsible for raising is $18,100. Which you’re right, feels crazy. But you know what? I am confident that the Lord has called me to the World Race, and therefore He will help provide fully for my needs. The amount I raise will cover all transportation costs while abroad along with food, lodging, and travel insurance for the full 11 months.
I am asking friends and family to generously consider giving toward my trip. We are all Kingdom workers, and I acknowledge that not everyone is able to go out into the world to share the Good News of Jesus. But He has called me, and so I’m going. Would you consider partnering with me? Donations can be made here on my blog, just click the orange DONATE button at the top!
7. Q: I want to help you raise support–what can I do?
A: First off, you’re the sweetest. Secondly, share my blog on social media, with your coworkers, family, etc. Not only is it where people can donate, but I will be keeping up with posts while I’m abroad. This blog is the go-to place to be in the loop with my happenings before, during, and after the Race. Also, people can subscribe to my blog to get updates every time I post 🙂
8. Q: Wait…where are you right now?!
A: Haha, so I was living in Kansas City. However, last weekend I packed up and said goodbye (for now!) to KCMO and am back in the NKY at my parent’s house. In a couple of days, I will head down to Georgia for a 10 day WR training camp. But I’ll be in KY until I launch at the beginning of August!
9. Q: How are you feeling about all of this?! It’s a lot of change!
A: Overall, I’m so incredibly EXCITED. This is something I’m super passionate about and cannot wait to go. I also get to meet all of my squad-mates in person on Monday which is CRAZY COOL. But you know what? I’m also a little nervous, anxious, and sad. Moving is hard, and trying to fit my life in a 60 L backpack sometimes feels harder (lol). I already miss my community in KC and know I will greatly miss my family and friends while I’m gone. But above any emotion I feel, I know God’s got this, and He’s got me. He’s brought me this far and will not leave me in this journey. He’ll never leave you either.

I hope some of your questions have now been answered. If you think of anything else, shoot me a message/text! I’d LOVE to talk with you and am so grateful to have people like you in my life. Thanks for all the love and support!
