Introducing Team More Amor!
Happy Monday!! So, I’ve been receiving lots of questions from friends and family about who my team is. Just to clarify, the big group of 25 that I will be traveling from country to country with is called my squad. In each country we will split off into our smaller teams of 5-7 people and go to different ministry locations. Our teams could stay the same for all 11 months, or they could be switched up. So just remember – big group = squad, small group = team.
At training camp we got to meet our squad and were also split into our teams. My team is an all girls team of 5. Our team name that we decided upon is More Amor (More Love). We hope to grow in love for God, each other, and His people and creation throughout our year together.
Here is my current favorite picture of my team taken as we video chatted yesterday from all across the country!
As you can see there are 6 lovely faces in this picture. Originally my team had 6 members. However, yesterday, Elizabeth (bottom right) informed us that she is no longer launching with us in October, and feels like God is leading her in a different direction. While we are very sad that she won’t be traveling with us, we are super excited to see where God is leading her! We will miss you, Elizabeth!!!
I want to introduce each of my teammates! I’ve asked each of them to answer the same 4 questions. They are incredible women, and I am so excited to serve alongside them!

1. One thing you are excited about for the World Race – I’m really excited to meet new people from all over and hear their stories.
2. One thing you are nervous about – I’m a little nervous about giant foreign bugs. Especially giant spiders.
3. Favorite hobby – I’ve recently gotten back into the hobby of painting. I’m bringing a small “sketch a day” journal, it will be fun to see how the days look through pictures!
4. Favorite meal (something you consistently crave) – One of my favorite meals is shrimp and grits. Good shrimp and grits is like a heated blanket in winter. And my favorite desert is probably key lime pie.
Maddie Hungate – Albuquerque, NM, 25
1. One thing you are excited about for the World Race – I am most excited about seeing new places & being immersed in new cultures. Seeing these places as a tourist would give me a much different idea of what these people’s lives are all about. Getting to live & serve alongside allows me to better step into their experiences.
2. One thing you are nervous about – I am nervous about something happening to someone I love while I am away.
3. Favorite hobby – Is drinking coffee a hobby?? I love to see new places. I also love to run & do yoga & read.
4. Favorite meal (something you consistently crave) – I consistently crave a good salad, with avocado & chicken. Also I LOVE dark chocolate!
Courtney Yerkes – Camden, AR, 24
1. One thing you are excited about for the World Race – So. Many. Things. But a big one is being able to be fully immersed in new cultures all over the world and watch God move in super lit ways in different places for a WHOLE YEAR.
2. One thing you are nervous about – Okay. So sometimes reading blogs from previous racers is good and helps you be prepared, and sometimes you discover things that you never knew you needed to be concerned about. So, recently discovered my biggest world race fear – in other countries they often just have a hole in the ground instead of toilets and running water. Which is fine. But I’ve discovered it is possible to FALL. IN. Biggest fear is falling into a poop hole. So there’s that.
3. Favorite hobby – I love reading, doing crafts, and spending time with all humans especially kiddos.
4. Favorite meal (something you consistently crave) – Chicken fajitas with tons of guacamole, followed by cheesecake or cherry pie with ice-cream.
Breanna Van Dellen – Chatfield, MN, 28
1. One thing you are excited about for the World Race – So many things! I’m excited to explore new places, connect with people (build relationships with my team!) & also to strengthen my relationship with Christ.
2. One thing you are nervous about – I’m definitely nervous about something health-wise happening to family back home. And just missing people in general.
3. Favorite hobby – I like to read, draw, lift weights, kayak, and travel.
4. Favorite meal (something you consistently crave) – Hmm anything with rice or peanut butter. (But ew not together.)
Me 🙂 – Frederick, MD, 23
1. One thing you are excited about for the World Race – I’m so pumped to experience new cultures, people, and food and get to see God work in some mighty ways!
2. One thing you are nervous about – This is so dumb, but honestly one of the biggest things I’m scared of in general is hearing people throw up. You want to see me freak out and sprint away? Throw up around me. So basically I’m nervous about how I’m going to react when teammates inevitably get sick and are throwing up. Imma try to keep my cool, maybe even take care of them…ha.
3. Favorite hobby – I can’t pick one, so I’ll give my top three. I love skiing, whitewater kayaking, and eating.
4. Favorite meal (something you consistently crave) – Spaghetti with salad and garlic bread with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert!
