Spiraling.
That’s the word I’m using to describe my life right now. Everything is starting to feel more real. More real that I’m leaving, more real that I need to buy gear, more real that I need to raise money, more real that my life is going to change drastically. So my head is spiraling.
17 days until training camp and 77 days until launch. Yikes.
At training camp I’ll be put through multiple simulations such as packing and unpacking my bag every day, sleeping in my tent, learning about the other countries, taking bucket showers, taking a fitness test, meeting my squad, airport simulation and uncomfortable bathroom situations.
What have I been doing to get ready for all of this you might ask? (but probably not)
I have been walking with my 36lbs. pack on my back. The goal is to walk 2.2 miles in 38 minutes to pass the fitness requirement, so far I’ve done it in 33. I’ve also been TRYING to buy the gear I need but…
1. There are way too many options to pick from and I’m no expert in the camping world
2. It’s all so expensive!
So I’m praying that God shows me what to get before I lose my head, because it’s happening.
I’ve also gotten my shots! Well, 3 out of 8 shots. So far I’ve gotten my Polio shot, hepatitis a shot, flu, and typhoid fever shots. Next up is three rounds of Japanese encephalitis and one round of yellow fever. Super excited to get more shots.
Also I’m 80% funded!!!
I recently just took all the coins and cash from the adopt a jar fundraiser and the grand total was a whopping $1,225!! I only have $2,400 left to raise and more gear to buy and I’m there. God is so good. I’m amazed at how quickly fundraising has gone. I know it’s not always like this, but I’m pretty convinced at this point that God wants me to go. I’m looking into more fundraising opportunities/options, if you have any I would love to hear them! Right now I’m just working and praying that the money I need comes.
