God speaks to us in the coolest ways sometimes. He spoke to me In a totally unexpected way the other day, and I would love to tell you about it.
I really wanted to learn how to surf, so I took a lesson with some friends. After the basic instructions we got out on the water and started to put them into practice. I fell the first couple times, got up a few times, and then was really struggling and fell four or five times in a row. Then my surf instructor said, “You look down too much, why are you so focused on your feet? You need to look up.” And then again he said, “Stop looking down, look ahead where you want to go.” Wow, okay God, right away I knew He was speaking to me through my instructor and it was so cool. God just spoke so clearly to me that I still walk in the flesh so much and not in the spirit, that I still walk by sight and not by faith. He also reminded me of Phillipians 3:13 which says, “Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” And this all just happened within a minute or so out in the ocean, but that’s not all God wanted to show me! Then my instructor proceeded to say, “You think too much. Just stop thinking about it and do it.” At that point I was like, okay God, I love it. God had him say that because just the night before I was thinking about how I struggle with always sharing the gospel. I ask myself questions like, what am I going to say? How am I going to share Jesus with them? What if they reject me? I always think too much! I need to stop worrying about what I’m going to say, and just be bold and share the good news of Christ with people. And if I’m walking in the spirit, then the Holy Spirit will lead me and give me the exact words to say when witnessing. It was such a special moment, I was just amazed at how God used my instructor to speak to me in such an obvious way. It was awesome too because my instructor was bold, he didn’t sugar coat anything, but just straight up told me what I was doing wrong. God knew that was exactly the kind of push I needed.
His advice worked too! The last two waves I got up on the board, looking forward, not thinking about it so much. Just like his advice worked for surfing, I know it will just as well be so fruitful in my walk with the Lord. So thank you God.
