As our time came to close in Lima, we started looking for places to stay in Cusco, Peru. We found a church called Calvary Fellowship Cusco that we could stay at for a donation. They said they’d be happy to have us and they were in the process of moving churches and needed some help. We discussed the possibility as a team and we were down.
After 24 hours of what felt like the longest bus ride in the world we arrived in Cusco. Quick complementary travel tip, if ever traveling from Lima to Cusco and you’re thinking about riding with CIVA bus company, spend the extra 5 dollars and upgrade from Ecociva to Superciva. We took the Superciva bus on the way back and it was so great we didn’t want to get off.
At the bus station we met Kenneth, the pastor of the church and his wife Letty. They drove us to the church and gave us the run down of the city, the church and the work we’d be doing. I was very excited for the opportunity to work with our hands.
For the next week, we spent a lot of our time working at the church. The work varied different days, but it was all enjoyable. Thank you Williamson… We spent some days sanding, spackling and prepping walls to painted. Also we removed cabinets and sanded them down to refinish them at a later time and date. We also spent a day loading a large pile of debris into a dump truck and chiseling conduit channels in the walls to run electricity. Our final day broke out the paint brushes and rollers and primed a room. I never thought I’d be so happy to paint…
In the evenings we spent time with Miguel and Leo laughing, cooking and enjoying coca tea together. Cusco is high on the list of places to return to…
Our time in Cusco flew by and was one of my favorite weeks of the race. It felt good to roll up the sleeves and get the hands dirty. I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him in that way.
Below are some pictures of what the week looked like…
