I’m sitting here, in the Philippines, at my host location right outside of the main city of Manila. I arrived here 4 days ago after 2 days of traveling and a major case of jet lag.
We dove right into ministry by going to a “Feeding” – when a group of us bring a hot(and yummy) dish to a village and give out meals. On our first day we not only gave meals but held a Woman’s Bible study and read from Luke 10:38 about Mary and Martha. You should read it. But the point is, Jesus doesn’t want us to try and earn His love by “doing” things for him… he wants to spend time with us, which is so awesome and intimate.
At another feeding, me and some girls went to a village with other college-aged Filipino girls and served with them! My friend Sharon told a Bible story, Ashley Prayed and Krista taught the kids a really fun song. Then, Amanda and I gave out a hot meal. I think my favorite part was when we came back to our house and just hung out with the Filipino girls. We talked boys, school, and Jesus. I’m already excited for next time!
We’ve gotten to do a lot of ministry already and this coming week it’ll be even more. (so much, we actually created a calendar to remember everything) We get to choose from sooooo many things, but the main three are:
Helping out at the Children’s home – Some of these kids are orphans, but most are actually being fostered and the hope is for them to be reunited with their parents! Ages newborn to 18. I got to take care of 3 newborn’s one morning… and I did not want to leave and I will definitely be spending a lot of time here this month!
Working at the pregnancy/birthing clinic – Woman from all over the community come here to get check ups done, occasional ultra sounds, and yes…they give birth here too! Literally a few of the girls on my team literally got to deliver a baby!!! (and of course I signed up for the next ones!)
(This is a picture of a birth announcement that one of my teammates made (Hannah Latone) for the new mother!)
And again, Feedings. Almost every feeding we get to present the Gospel in some way….which is awesome and Ya’ll know I love food.
This next week will be full-time so stay tuned for my blog next week!
