So we had team changes this month and man did this change come with more than we all expected…
My new team is Refuge 91!! The name comes from psalm 91 and how we all yearn to be a safe place for everyone. But not only did I get Nicole, Mya, Rebecca, Jess L, Jess W and Danielle… but some unwanted guests made an appearance our first night of our new teams. Who Your wondering!? Well let’s just say my knew team is a close NIT family. We made it 8 months without these little critters but Lice has invaded F Squad and spreading like wild fire. My lovely team just happens to have 4 of those lucky members who carry them and just discovered our lovely squad leader unnamed has a new friend as well and named him Clive.
Yes, we have started naming them and spending our first week as a new team in a new country with our wonderful new hosts nit picking and overly shampoo treating our heads. You want a team to get close fast? Invade their space and force them to trust and rely on one another by picking the dang bugs out of each others hair! I have grown to love and appreciate these girls more than I thought possible.
You ask what being selfless looks like? Meet the beautiful souls who don’t have lice but volunteer their free nights to be a nit picker and hangout with the not so lucky.
We have developed ways to still be an affectionate team by having lice hugs!
Baked goods at picking parties help diminish harsh thoughts towards one another while participating in the most tedious task!
The Greatest Showman soundtrack to ease our boredom
This months ministry is not what we thought it would like, but has become a ministry towards one another. If we ever feel like we’re not doing enough for our hosts, there is the constant itch of a reminder that our ministry is also Refuge 91. Our ministry is living life in love and acceptance of our neighbors. While also making sure the bonding never slows down, the love never runs dry, Clive never returns with friends, we know how to braid our hair in all sorts of ways and we never have to tell another host that we have brought unexpected guests because WE HAVE LICE.
I don’t wish lice upon anyone, if it was earlier in the race I probably would just go without hair…. but as much as lice is a replica of Satan in a small big form, I am blessed to have 4 other girls to suffer with me and 7 girls who love, help, and accept me despite my lice.
Thanks ladies. Much love and gratitude for you and your generous hearts.
