Today is day three in Belmopan, Belize. It is the smallest capital city in the Americas with less than 17,000 residents. My team is staying at the YWAM(youth with a mission) base in the MIDDLE OF THE JUNGLE!! The monkeys in the trees behind our guest house scream in the morning, and the sound actually travels for 20 miles. There are tons of chickens that roam around, reminds me of Moana ha! There are also horses, which obviously bring my heart back to the island. We’ve seen many bugs including a tarantula, lizards and tiny ants that bite.
Our ministry this month is to help plan the Legacy Youth Conference, which is a nationwide Christian conference for children. We will not start that till Monday, so in the meantime we have had free time to get acclimated and get groceries. As the treasurer I am obviously in charge of money. I have learned quickly that budgeting and meal prepping for 5 is a lot of work! (Mom: I’m sorry I was not appreciative of the task at the time and complained if I didn’t like what you made- you rock!)
In addition to the planning for the conference we will also use our time to volunteer at Marla’s House of Hope. This organization works directly with the government to provide a home for young girls who have been sexually abused in their homes. We will have the opportunity to spend time with them. We’ve been told that their biggest need is simply just someone to listen.
I’ve experienced a lot of culture shock so far, and that mixed with the heat has been overwhelming. But I’m staying faithful and trusting the plan. Thank you all for the prayers!!
