I landed in Guatemala on September 12, 2018. I don’t think I understood exactly how much it would impact me. The people of Guatemala were some of the friendliest I’ve ever met. They laughed and smiled right along with us. The children were beautiful. They were eager to learn and eager to laugh.
Guatemala was all-squad, so I lived with 48 people for 3 months. God taught me so much about community, especially coming from a small family of 4. Living in that kind of community along with ministry stretched me in ways I couldn’t have imagined before.
I’ve been in Thailand for a week, and I absolutely love it, but I still miss Guatemala. I miss the colorful Mayan dresses. I miss the towering volcanos. I miss the crazy chicken busses. I miss the kids at ministry and our ministry hosts.
Thank you, Guatemala, for teaching me so much. Thank you for being welcoming. Thank you for having me start out the Race well. I hope that someday we will meet again.
