Hello!!

I am so excited to tell you all about our ministry for the next three months!

My team is te first team to go up to a rural mountain village called San Jose Calderas. It is at the base of Acetenango, our ears pop all the way up because it is such a high elevation.

Calderas is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to, you can literally see the tops of most of the mountains and walk through clouds on a regular basis.

Our ministry hosts Angel and Elsa are some of the sweetest people, they have a strong desire to unify the community and spread the truth about Jesus.

Calderas is in a giant feud right now, there are 5 churches and they don’t get along well. They are stealing members and preaching against each other, causing a lot of bitterness and feuds.

My team is teaching English for the three months we’ll be here. Knowing English is a huge deal in Guatemala-it leads to a better job, which can help break that family’s line of poverty.

Our ministry hosts told us to expect 15, maybe 20 kids our first day of teaching. We opened the doors and 117 children poured in. Yes, 117.

Haliegh and I teach a class of about 40 boys, 7-18 years old. I was very worried about teaching a class of boys at first but they have turned out to be amazing! They play along with all of our games and genuinely want to learn. The boys also have a lot of grace (mostly just laughing at us) for our less then perfect Spanish speaking skills. For example, yesterday in class i asked everyone how many days they had instead of uncles, to sing a stunt instead of a song, and to tell me what “red” meant in English.

But so far i love teaching English i love that i get to tell them about Jesus and teach them but still have so much fun and laugh.
