Well here I go 1st blog

just incase you didn’t know my name is Dirk Vlot and I will be attending the world race in January 2018 route three on team Uprooted.

So I just finished up training camp and let me tell you it was an experience to remember. Coming into camp I remember getting there early and thinking to myself, Why did I decide to spend a year with 32 strangers? I mean I have spent a couple years pretty much living by myself maybe seeing a friend or new face once a week if that and being fine with it, to now having 32 roommates that I have never met before and seeing some of them every hour of the day for the next year. Then we had worship the first night and I remembered God’s put me here for a reason. To be apart of a team of people that are all willing to sacrifice their day to day comforts and jump into the dirt and grime in order to spread the word of God. so on day two or three I decided to just go big or go home and open up more than I ever have sharing things i’ve struggled with in the past and present.  To my surprise I wasn’t alone in those struggles and it opened my eyes to the fact that these teams weren’t randomly slapped together but that God had placed us all together knowing we could help each other when things got tough. So by the end of camp after forming a family like bond with everyone on the team, I remember leaving and thinking I can’t wait to see my new brothers and sisters in Christ again and taking on the World with them.

Fyi for anyone going to training camp

1 Georgia isn’t warm in October

2 bucket showers are not pleasant in the am

3 don’t worry to much about what you look or smell like because by day 11 neither will be pleasant.

4 just enjoy you’re time there and bond with everyone on the squad. So you can find the people with snacks when you get hungry.
