Satan has attacked my body every single month on the Race so far.
Warning, this blog contains some TMI.
I have experienced some of the wildest sicknesses in the last 7 months. Everything from massive spider bites to pooping my pants, I’ve basically done it all. My conclusion is that the work I am doing for the Lord’s Kingdom scares the enemy so much that he attacks my body to prevent God’s work to be done.
News flash, no sickness is able to stop the work of our Lord.
This battle with sickness all started in the Dominican Republic. It actually began during our travel day to the DR, on day ONE of the World Race. During our second lay-over, I started seeing symptoms of a cold and it turned out to be the worst cold I have ever had. The enemy wanted to derail the World Race for me and start this journey with my body in a posture of failure. But after four days of hardly leaving my bunkbed, I was healed and my journey really began.
Every single month on the race so far (all seven of them), I have experienced some sort of attack on my body that has kept me from ministry for a few days. The opening cold in the DR, a wicked spider bite on my leg in Haiti plus another cold, a mysterious South African bug bite on my ankle (my foot looked like a football), stomach issues after eating funky meat in Botswana, food poisoning in Zambia (my first time pooping my pants on the race… emphasis on first), another cold in India, and now TWO really bad stomach sicknesses since being in Nepal.
My body has gone through a lot the last seven months and I have faith that the Lord will continue to heal me no matter what I get hit with next.
At a village house church in India, I had the amazing opportunity to preach on how the Lord is our ultimate healer. I started the message with two stories about the different ways I have witnessed the Lord’s healing in my life. The first story was when I broke my wrist in middle school playing football by myself in my front yard. I was so embarrassed that I prayed for the Lord to heal me before telling my parents what happened. I didn’t get a miracle but I was completely healed 6 weeks later. The second story was when I was on a traveling ministry improv team two years ago. My team and I traveled to different camps every week to spread joy through improv comedy and disciple teenagers in their walk with Christ. One night at the evening service of a camp, the pastor was preaching on healing. He asked for someone in the crowd who had arms of different lengths to come to the front. A little girl walked up on stage and showed everyone that her arms were significantly inches different from each other. The pastor said, “In Jesus Name, left arm grow.” And we watched her arm grow right away and she was healed. We have so much power in the Name of Jesus. After these stories, I read a few of Jesus miracles. One from Matthew 20:29-34 when He heals two blind men and another in Luke 5:17-24 when Jesus heals the paralyzed man who was lowered through the roof by his friends. We serve a God of miracles!!
I have experienced a lot of physical healing on the race so far from my story alone. And I have also seen people walk without pain for the first time in years, the blind see, and the captives set free.
God is changing my life through this mission trip. I am learning more about our Creator than I ever have before. He is opening my eyes to how vast His love is for every single person living in this world. He loves me just as he loves you, and just as he loves the people in the villages of India, the slums of Nepal, and the city of Jeffrey’s Bay South Africa. He loves us so much that He walks us through painful healings of past hurts to teach us more about Him and how we can glorify the Lord even in the most difficult and lonely situations.
Jesus is still alive and He is wanting to heal you too.
p.s. I am still battling the phase 2 of my Nepal stomach bug. Please pray for a complete and quick recovery!
