Disclaimer- I wrote this post around 4 weeks ago, but it has been on my laptop and I have not connected to WIFI until now. I am sorry for not keeping y’all updated, and will try my best to be consistently posting for the rest of my time in Guatemala.
Hey everyone, I am in Guatemala! I am going to start off this post with more of my emotions, and then get to the more practical information later for those who are interested. Here we are, with only 2 and a half months left on the Race. Looking back on Swaziland, it was overwhelming to look at 9 months. 9 months away from family, away from friends, away from the life I knew at home. Now we have been on the field for over 6 months, and I don’t know if I am happy it is going by so fast, or I want to slow it down. For this first time on the trip, I am realizing that my life will not be like this forever. I am super excited to see family and to start college in the fall, but there are definitely things that I am gong to miss from these 9 months. I have not gone a single day without seeing my teammates, and once I go home, I may not see some of them for years. So, for these last 3-ish months, I am striving to be as present and purposeful with my time as I can be.
Now for the more practical stuff- Adventures in Missions has ‘bases’ in multiple locations, one of which is in Guatemala. There are currently a few college groups on short-term trips staying at the base, so our squad is at a hostel in Antigua for the week. After only a week, Antigua is one of my favorite places that I have been- it is beautiful, the people are so friendly, and the food is amazing.
For ministry, each team is assigned to a village surrounding the area, and our team is in a village called Los Corrales, which is in the mountains of Guatemala. Our team is lead by our host, Aderkee, a young native Guatemalan who works the night shift at a hostel and leads our team during the day. We will be doing home visits, prayer groups, and teaching English and art classes for the local kids.
I am so excited for what Guatemala holds, and will make sure to keep y’all updated! Please comment or message me any prayer requests that you may have.
