One of the ministries that my team has worked with in Costa Rica is Abraham’s Project, a preschool and after-school program. After working in the classroom for a few days our ministry host told us that we would be helping in the garden. We picked up leaves, cut bushes and pulled weeds. But that time led to so much more than just helping in the garden… we had an incredible conversation with the man in charge of the garden, Luis. He shared his story and exhumed the joy of the Lord.
Then, two weeks later, Luis invited us to come have dinner at his home. So this past Wednesday night we arrived at Abraham’s Project to meet him. As we waited, it began down pouring! We were planning on walking to Luis’s home because there were 16 of us, but when Luis showed up, he said hi and then he disappeared for nearly 20 minutes. We had absolutely no idea where he had gone. Until Luis came round the church corner driving a 15 passenger van!
Later in the night as we were eating dinner Luis told us that he wanted to get wet so that we wouldn’t have to. So he prayed, asking the Lord to provide a way and the Lord provided someone to let him use their van that night! He was so excited and willing to serve us in whatever way he could. The faith that Luis has is like no other that I’ve ever seen. At the age of 12 he was out of his home and on the streets of San Jose, stuck in an endless cycle for 35 years. But the Lord rescued him. He is now an incredible man of God and the Lord has given him a beautiful wife and family. Luis was overjoyed to have the opportunity to make us dinner and worship through fellowship, sharing testimonies of God’s goodness.
The Lord has set up so many divine appointments over the past 9 months. We have made friends with individuals all over the world. Many have treated us as so much more than friends, and in turn, they’ve become family. Luis is one of these people. I always feel so loved and encouraged when those we meet are willing to open their home and take us in. Luis is such a man after God’s heart and God has given Him an amazing testimony, that all points directly back to the Lord!
