Tips & Tricks for Reading on the World Race:

  • If you can read in cars, reading on public transit on long commutes to ministry in the AM will be such a blessing. ?n cultures where the concept of being on time is dramatically different, have a spare book (or two for a teammate or as a back up) come in handy to bid the 5-45 minute wait until the other person shows up
  • If you bring books on the Race, only bring ones you’re willing to give away or drop or never see again.
  • Books pack well as the last item in clothing packing cubes.
  • It can be fun to have every reader to write their name, the country they read the book in and the date
  • Ask to borrow books from hosts and kind people your encounter.
If you’re reading a popular series and can’t afford the next book (cough cough LOTR) and can easily find the book in libraries and book shops: keep track of what chapter/paragraph you’re on and read a little every time you find the book.
  • Read books relevant to the culture you’re in or the culture you’re heading to (Like: First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers // Loung Ung // Vietnam or Through Gates of Splendor // Elisabeth Elliot // Ecuador)

The Race is a sweet time to get to read a lot but watch yourself. Why are you reading? What could you be doing other than reading? Count the cost, not just the weight of a book or its price but the time that reading takes from doing other things.

Love you all and stoked to get to use a library card again,
