Birds and sunshine woke us up this morning. I wanted to wake up a little earlier to read my bible, but as I opened up to Ecclesiastes, my eyelids slowly drifted closed before I could even read through the first chapter. Even though I got great sleep last night, I feel exhausted and drained today. Thankfully, I was able to peel myself out of bed a few minutes later to help Melania in the kitchen. Breakfast was the last of the eggplant salad on bread with fried eggs and sausage. Roy asked if we wouldn’t mind making breakfast for everyone for the next few days. Praise and Jasmine volunteered for tomorrow so we will see how they do.
After breakfast, we went out to the dorm and started putting up the walls. I started off using the nail gun but realized other people were more excited about using it than I was. So, I traded off with one of the girls and became the errand runner. I would run across the property to grab any extra supplies John needed, nails, wood, and even a window. After awhile, I realized my help would be more useful elsewhere so I went inside to help Melania cook and clean. We made lunch (chicken soup, bread, and meat with noodles) and during the meal, Roy decided that for dinner, he would take us all out for something special.
We were all super excited about dinner so we ran back to our jobs to get as much done before then as we could. Jasmine and I cleaned the bathrooms and swept the living area while the other girls worked on the dorm. Around 5:00 we sat down as a team for team time and listened to a message from one of our squadmates on Sabbath. It sparked good conversation between us and I feel that we are officially comfortable with one another.
Once team time came to an end, the six of us, plus Roy and Jon, jumped into the van and went into town. Roy took us to this AMAZING pizza place and told us he would treat us to a feast. He wasn’t lying as we stuffed our faces with four MASSIVE wood fired pizzas and homemade lemonade. We all discussed our previous missions experiences and talked about life on and off the field. It is neat to hear and learn from people who have been doing this type of work their entire lives.
On our way home, we were blessed with a beautiful sunset that dipped below the green mountains in the distance. It’s amazing how much this place reminds me of Virginia and it’s Blue Ridge Mountains. God truly is the coolest guy I know!
