Many people feel drawn to their specific passions in life, and look to find a career that involves that unique calling. For example, if someone is passionate about adoption, they may become a social worker, if one has a passion for sports they may become a coach, and if they have a passion for helping others, then a doctor or nurse is probably an excellent choice.
I, however, have always struggled with identifying what my passion in life was. When I was in high school, I thought it might be nutrition or criminal justice. But as I was filling out my college applications, I realized that the only time I have ever felt truly passionate about something is when I was serving others. Being able to share the love of Christ with people is one of my greatest passions and because of that, I choose missions to be my number one focus and passion in life.
Now, some people see missions as an opportunity for an individual to travel the world, others may see it as an alternative to getting a “real job”. However, what most people do not understand is that Missions may be one of the most difficult lines of work out there. Many missionaries live on a different continent than the rest of their family making it not only physically challenging but emotionally stretching. They must constantly rely on others to meet their needs that most of us take for granted, such as food, shelter, and transportation. And at times, they may even find themselves in life-threatening situations just because of their faith.
So after saying all that, I must answer the question, “Why missions?”. Well, the missions field is where I feel God is calling me in life. I have prayed for years now that God would lead me to where He needed me most and this is where I have landed. God is calling me to be His servant overseas and I am bound and determined to follow His will, even if that means I have to give up my everyday, comfortable life to do so.
I am so blessed to be called into missions and although I know the road before me is going to be tough, I know God has prepared me for what lies ahead.
