Los Corrales is a vibrant little mountain village that my team and I have been doing ministry in for the past two weeks. Most of the inhabitants are of Mayan descent and have big families that often all live on the same property—grandparents and in-laws included. Women wear brightly colored floral garments and long skirts. Men walk their horses loaded with corn stocks down the cobble streets and children run and giggle after they’ve picked up their popsicles from the tienda (small convenience store). They call out “buenas” to us every time we walk by. The people are kind, simple, and rich in love and generosity. But many have fallen into a pit of complacency or simply don’t know how to seek a relationship with Jesus.

The Lord has paved our way into Los Corrales. Much of our ministry has involved house visits. Basically, this consists of going to different homes to build relationships with people, speak life into them, pray for them, etc. Because we’re in Guatemala for 3 months we have the really cool opportunity to pour into families and get to walk alongside them. As we’ve wandered the streets and voiced the phrase “hello, our team is here for a few months. We would love to come in and spend time with you” time and time again we haven’t been turned away once. God has provided us with open doors.

Open doors has literally meant that people are eagerly welcoming us into their homes but I think it provides a metaphor for something deeper. It’s the passage from one place to another. Almost like the turning of a page. We are coming into homes to show people Jesus and as we walk through the thresholds something changes. We are certainly not Jesus but Jesus is with us. His touch spills from our fingertips. His words echo off of the cement walls.

As believers this is how building the kingdom should look. It isn’t about us. But the spirit moves through us to intervene in our lives and the lives around us. God has been completely blowing me away. He’s healed the sick, lifted the oppressed, and welcomed the lost into His kingdom with arms wide open. Jesus is freaking moving here in Guatemala and I’m stoked to keep sharing more and more stories with you all.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for supporting. God bless amigos.
