Mosaic has been together for roughly 36 days now. “Home” and “normal” change a lot on the race this month that has been even more than usual. We have lived in three countries, two hostels, one hotel, three AirBNBs, and slept (I use that word loosely) in two airports. We have lived with anywhere between 35 and 5 people at any given point. We said goodbye to squad leaders and a squad mate. We have celebrated Christmas (twice, Armenian Christmas is January 7th), rang in a new year, and celebrated a birthday… what a wild month! With all of that transition I have struggled.
Things that I felt the Lord asking me to be intentional about, especially starting the new year, have been put on the back burner. I haven’t been as active as I would like. I’ve been sleeping in until the last possible second, which isn’t the end of the world itself, but has really cut into my time with the Lord. Thank goodness for community.
Thankfully, I live with a group of women who know my goals and places I want to grow. They can see when I’m slacking in those areas and give me a gentle nudge when needed. And as it turns out, I’m not the only one struggling! Isn’t that funny. When we speak up about an area we could use some help there is generally at least one other person ready to raise their hand and say “hey, me too!”
One of my teammates suggested writing out the personal rhythms we want to create for ourselves. Just a few things we want o make a priority in our every day lives to keep us on track and help maintain a personal “normal” no matter where we are. In writing them out I am setting clear goals and allowing my team to hold me accountable to them.
So, I thought I would share them with all of you also… after all, you are my community! I need all of you to hold me accountable not just when I get home but starting NOW. Let’s be a community that builds one another up and encourages each other to reach our full potential.
HERE WE GO!
- Get out the dang bed. I am making it a personal goal to wake up before 8AM and have time with the Lord before my team comes together every morning.
- Intercede. The Lord gave me this word at debrief and again when I asked for a word for the year. I am digging into what it looks like to fight along side of and on behalf of those I love most on a spiritual level. This ties into my quiet time.
- I like to move it, move it! Well maybe I don’t like it just yet… but I don’t hate it. I am going to get an intentional workout in at least 3 days a week. I don’t want to miss out on one single opportunity because I am not physically fit. We walk a good bit (thank you transportation budget!) But God has blessed me with this body and I want to take care of it!
- Russian. I am least excited about this one. The Lord showed me a passion for language while in the Middle East. Unfortunately, now none of my Arabic does me a lick of good. I want to be just as passionate about Russian as we move into our next 5 countries and hopefully carry that on into Spanish when I get home! I am committing to 30 minutes a day of Russian for the next 30 days. Very few things are as convicting as saying “Just English” when an “uneducated” refugee asks you how many languages you speak and you learn that they are fluent in 3.
So, there we are friends. What are you wanting to implement or grow in? How can I be praying for you?
