Saying goodbye is hard. But hard goodbyes mean you have made meaningful relationships.
This bag of cheerios had been with us for quite some time now. He has traveled to more continents than the majority of the worlds population. There were many times we considered giving up on him only because we didn’t see his value in those hard moments when our packs were too heavy. He was always there for us though, patiently reminding us of how useful he was. Since we left Georgia he has been a constant comfort; whether a snack on overnight trains through North Africa or a great breakfast after sleeping on an airport floor in Spain. He didn’t question our needs he simply met them. As hard is it is to say goodbye to him I have had some much harder goodbyes recently.
It was difficult to explain why I would leave for a year when I have such a great community surrounding me in Texas. I didn’t start this journey to distance myself from them. Honestly I can’t imagine leaving without a supportive community backing me. That didn’t make saying “see you later” any easier. I cried in restaurants, kitchens, coffee shops, at weddings, in beauty shops; I just couldn’t help myself. I don’t think I have ever felt so loved. I tried to get pictures of as many of those “see you later” moments as possible so that when I am feeling down I can remind myself of the awesome community I have cheering me on and praying for me from the other side of the world. If you don’t know me personally this video will give you a quick peek at some of the people that have helped make me the person I am.
I am praying to make many more beautiful relationships around the world that will make saying goodbye difficult. To quote my good friend Winnie the Pooh, “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye to hard”.
