If you read one of my first blogs on here I expressed my desire to pray BIGGER prayers. One of our first days in Colombia my team & I sat down and made an “impossible prayers list”. Update: God has been showing off in answering these. For example one prayer we put on the list was to “randomly run into someone we know from home” (sounds small but homesickness is a thing and it was a seemingly impossible desire of our hearts) and in Ecuador at Pan de Vida Courtney ran into someone from home! Another example from our list was to be able to go to Machu Picchu which we were able to do while in Peru! Not only were we placed in Cusco (a city close enough to go for a day) but we also could afford a budget trip there….but that’s a whole other blog! It’s just been so eye opening to experience prayer this way. Intentionally praying for specific things and receiving them! My last example is my favorite. So we’ve been studying the Bible together and one week the discussion was centered around the Holy Spirit. I realized that though I believe in the Trinity the Holy Spirit always seemed for lack of a better word almost dormant to me. I just could never get a good handle on that concept. I mean Jesus yes I could grasp him as the son of God sent to earth to die for us. And even God as creator and father. But my mind didn’t have a category to explain the spirit exactly. I couldn’t describe necessarily what the Holy Spirit did in us or for us day to day. So I added that to my impossible prayers list. I prayed to be connected and in tune with the Holy Spirit and to see him move. The. Next. Day. The very next day it happened. So we’re leaving ministry and this man stops us. He was the worship leader for that day’s events. Met him a little while before, said hello and shook his hand nothing more. He said the Lord shared something with him for us and wondered if we wouldn’t mind hearing it. What obedience! He had been given words for four out of the six of us, one of them being me!

For Courtney he shared that he saw her leading worship, writing notes and sharing her story. Also saw a lot of pain from her younger years but God was gonna use that to impact others who experienced the same thing. Then he prayed over her hands in leading worship.

For reference on why this made such a big impact on us, Maddie and Courtney had been discussing Courtney stepping into a role of leading worship and not hiding behind “not being good enough as an excuse to not do things”

For Sara… Walking into a room the energy shifts so much joy and life. Normally when people enter a room it can feel heavy but with you it’s light. You have a banner of love you are loved. Your thumbprint is love. People wonder why you’re so nice but that’s just who you are with love

For me… He shared that when he looked at me the lord showed him I had so much love. The kind of love of a mother. I have a gift of hospitality. Of inviting people in and being with them. I’m very quiet but god loves the special relationship I have with him. It’s more like a friendship. I am in constant communication with him all throughout my day. I am quiet and keep secrets with the lord. Referencing Matthew 6 and storing up secrets or treasure with the lord and not on earth. ‘Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or worse stolen by burglars. It’s obvious isn’t it? The place where your treasure is is the place you will most want to be and end up being’ Matthew 6:19-21

His words so obviously came from the  Holy Spirit. There was so much truth in them, confirmed by the Bible and other people the Holy Spirit used to speak over us.

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)
