“As Iron Sharpens Iron, So A Friend Sharpens A Friend”
Proverbs 27:17 NLT version
I am a firm believer in the fact that God puts people into our lives for a reason.
So Here is my question to you:
“Can you name one person that is in your life that has had an unexpected impact on you?”
Because I can
Her name is Andrea
Wife-Mother-Employee-Friend
From that first night that we played golf together (which is how we met) to now, it has been such a joy ride as over the course of that golf season as I got to know her and she got to know me and as a result it developed into an incredible and unique friendship that I am so blessed to have.
Andrea is one of the most sweetest/outgoing/funny/patient/smart/Godly person I know who has not only an amazing life story/testimony as well as having such an servants heart and passion for the Lord.
One of my favorite things about her is the high amount of value she puts on having a spiritual life, & how important that is to her.
She is one of the reasons that I attend church more regularly, and who is one of the people I give credit to for helping me realize just how important that is in my life, and she also makes me look forward to attending the mission and outreach committee meetings.
I call her my “church mom” since that is how I feel best describes the closeness of our friendship. Andrea has even said that she will worry about me & my well-being while I’m gone, and will pray for me, which to me is very mom-like, and it makes me feel good to know that she cares deeply about our friendship to be worried about me while I’m gone for a year (on the flip side of that I will also worry about her too). I love how she is always the first one to introduce herself to a new person in a social setting. I love how she is always so open to talk about various topics, and is also there to listen if I need someone to talk to about things, and I feel like I can text her and not feel awkward. She is one that I feel like I can trust to go to when I need advice about something (again very mom-like), and just being around her puts me in a better mood if I am having a bad day. Plus I feel like I can be my true self around her, and she gets my strange sense of humor.
I have told her things from my past that even my own parents don’t know about such as things I did while in college or while living in NYC & the full struggle I had with mental illness.
We challenge each other to step outside our comfort zones, & we take interest in each other’s lives for I know her family & she knows mine. She has been so supportive & encouraging to me in so many ways.
Every time we do get together, it is always an fun & enriching experience for both of us
I have the highest of respect for her.
Outside of church and golf, we have had Gal’s night out every so often with events such as going to the movies, shared many meals together, the driving range, attending a Red Wings/Tigers game, volunteering for non church related causes etc. & She went out of her way to make my last birthday feel special.
I know that saying goodbye to Andrea for a year is going to be very emotional for me.
True friends know no age limit as seen in the case with Andrea and I
I am so blessed to have this extremely unique friendship with her, and I pray everyday that I don’t mess up this awesome friendship.
Looking back on when we first played together, I do feel bad for laughing at her during those early rounds.
Til next time your fellow sister in Christ,
Bonnie
