I was driving through uptown Charlotte yesterday, as i’m sitting at the light of a major intersection I looked around and I saw so many homeless people. I saw a man walking hand in hand with his 5 year old daughter while in his other hand he held a 40oz Beer. I thought to myself wow there is so many ministry opportunities RIGHT HERE WHERE I LIVE. Seeing all of this made me think back to something I read in a book called “Living like a missionary” by Jeff Iorg. This small paragraph really hit me hard “No matter the people group-orphans, immigrants, prisoners, or outcasts- you can find them in your community. No matter the nationality, you can find people from almost every country in every major city. If God is leading you to reach a specific people group outside your immediate community, get busy! Don’t assume cultural adaptation, linguistic preparation, or geographic relocation must precede obedience.” This means I need to GET BUSY. God didn’t call me to go on this trip so that I could just sit back and relax before we leave. He calls me to LOVE all the time. I can show love and compassion to the homeless population here just the same as I can show it to the Homeless in Thailand, Malaysia, Ecuador, or Costa Rica. A bible verse that really showcases the importance of Love is 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLV) “And now we have these three: faith and hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.”
To whoever reading this whether you are a young person like me, an adult, or elderly, I challenge you to open your eyes and take a deep look at the area you live in. Pray and ask God to show you where your mission field is, it could be in your school, across the world, or even at a nursing home. RISE UP AND LIVE LIKE A MISSIONARY WHEREVER YOU ARE.
