During the past month in Nepal, we have had many different opportunities for ministry. When our host gave us the option to go trekking in the Himalayas for three days while sharing the gospel in remote villages my answer couldn’t be anything but yes. Nepal has one of the greatest needs in the world for village ministry. The people in the mountains of Nepal will spend their entire lives without ever hearing the gospel. The main reason for this is because of how hard they are to reach, and most Nepali Christians don’t want to make the journey into the mountains.

We left at six in the morning to head for the mountains. After a seven-hour bus ride, we reached Pokhara a large tourist town in the valley surrounded by the Himalayas. After dropping off gear we wouldn’t need for the trek we continued up into the mountains. We took another bus and after an hour of driving, we reached a small cafe on the side of the road. We had a quick lunch and then started the trek. Our host told us that we would be hiking for about six hours until we would reach the inn that we would be staying in for the night. To be completely honest after the first hill I didn’t know if I could do six hours of this, let alone three days. But we eventually arrived at the inn we would stay at for the night. It was on the side of the mountain with a beautiful view of the snowcapped mountains.

The seconded day we were up a little before six in order to see the sunrise over the Himalayas. Then we headed out, we hiked for about six hours before we finally arrived at the homesteads we would be staying in for the night. After a cup of the best milk tea I’ve ever had we headed out to the neighboring villages to share the gospel. The first couple houses we came to we where rejected. Most of the people in the villages have been Hindu their entire lives and had no reason to change their minds. We spoke and prayed with several families before ending the day at a small house on the edge of the village. A woman and her husband lived in the house with their daughter. When we asked if we could share the gospel with her she became excited she told us how twice before us others had come and told her about this person called Jesus. She wanted to know more about him.

We shared the gospel and at the end of the visit, she accepted Jesus into her heart. It was such a precious moment. After we walked back to the homesteads we would be staying in for the night.

The next morning we started the trek down the mountain. In all, we trekked for three days, 25.5 miles, and a total of 62,807 steps all for His kingdom. I would do it all over again just to gain that sister in Christ. We were able to share her information with our host who will get a bible to her and disciple her in her new faith. I know that a difference was made on that mountain. I continue to pray for the people in that village and my new sister in Christ. Praying that she would be bold in her faith and share the love of Christ with her friends and neighbors.
