Two nights ago I got to stand on the rooftop and look down at the city below. The hustle, the movement, the lights , the people, etc. I looked and the Lord showed me through the stillness of being separated from the world below a glimpse of Him. He was showing me that so often I am amazed at all the lights below when the stars are right above me. Sometimes I just can’t see the stars because of the pollution of this world around me.

We are so in awe of the lights the Lord has made that we tried to imitate and create it here with things like lightbulbs. However, through trying to worship our Lord through imitating Him we’ve only focused on what we’re doing / making. We no longer can see the stars above. They’re still above in all their beauty but now all we’re looking at is what we’ve created.

Romans 1:20-23

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.”

“As a human race we thought we were so wise creating lights to glorify God but in reality we became fools when we tried to recreate God in human terms”

This goes back to our heart for worship if originally our intentions were pure (we want to glorify the Lord and worship all that He is) but as time goes on we end up focusing more on ourself, and we have that pride, we want the glory for ourselves…eventually we’ll create an environment where all you can see is those man-made light bulbs that fill the market and even if you look up you won’t be able to see the star filled sky.

Here in Thailand the sky is filled with smog. If you look outside it’s pretty much a white hazy sky. Then at night there is still so much smog and light pollution that you cannot see a single star. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I can still sit in awe of the star filled sky that our God has created. Just like sometimes we don’t see the Lord but that shouldn’t stop us from sitting in awe of all that He is.
