Hey Ya’ll

In September of 2018 I will be packing my life up into a backpack to go on The World Race Gap Year with a group of complete strangers. We will be traveling to Cambodia, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Costa Rica for nine months! I have known about the race since I was about eleven. When me and my mom went to visit family in Indiana, my moms friend mentioned that her daughter was planning to go on the trip. I immediately began watching videos and reading blogs, but after a while I didn’t think much of the race. It wasn’t until this past summer that my memory was refreshed and the WRGY became something that I constantly thought about. I recieved an email about the route reveal webcast and when it went live, I watched it. That night after the webcast, I began working on the application process. I’ve really sought God out to see if this was the route he wanted me to go instead of college. I don’t know if I will end up going to college, after the race, I don’t know if I will be here tomorrow, but I’m just trying my best to seek God to lead me in whatever His will is.

A little bit about me

My name is Annika Smith, you pronounce it (ah-n-ik-kah). I was born in Palestine, TX, but my parents, my brother and I moved to Searcy, Arkansas in 2003. I have been in church ever since I can remember, but I began to comprehend the extent of God’s love for me when I was eight. I got baptized in water when I was twelve and filled with the Holy Spirit when I was sixteen. God is currently teaching me, on top of so many other things, to be patient and present and to fix my perspective on things that matter in the Kingdom. I often find myself wishing my day away looking forward to something exciting, but when I do that, I miss out on the opportunities God has put in my path. I’m so thrilled about my race, but I know I need to continue planting seeds here in Searcy and wherever I might travel up onto my launch date.
