If you don’t know, the 30-something person squad that I’m traveling and serving with is divided into smaller teams. And as we are rapidly approaching the end of my Race, we as a squad have had our last team change. So, I want to tell you about my last (previous) team and my last (final) team.

TEAM SELAH
Going into this team, I had all types of negative feelings. I didn’t want to be with Mantha again, there were people I didn’t want to be around, and I didn’t want to be led by Gisele. But, it’s amazing how God the Lord is and He truly does send His Spirit to comfort and bring unity to His children. I learned so much from them, grew a lot because of them, and love them like crazy!

Mantha, I apologize for being so stubborn and prideful to let the enemy cause division between us when we started the Race. It may have taken longer than it should, but I’m grateful that the Lord knows way better than I do for me to actually learn about and from you. You are so filled with His wisdom and encouragement that it’d be a crime against the Kingdom of you didn’t have your heart for discipleship.

Gisele, to be candid, I didn’t want you as a Team Leader. I didn’t think you’d do well, but I’m so grateful that the Lord and our leadership team entrusted us to you. You are a great friend and sister, and that’s why you made an amazing leader. I’m glad the Lord allowed this safe and intentional season and community to redeem what it looks like to be a leader for you.

Hannah,  I’m so very glad we finally got to love with each, but more importantly be on a team together. I love you so much and I’ve been rooting for you and praying for the opportunity to love you. It was a blessing to pour into you and to be poured into by you.

Jordan, you are one amazing evangelist and future doctor. Your heart for people’s souls and bodies screams volumes. I trust and believe the Lord will use you to do many amazing things, and becoming a doctor will one be one of them. Let me know where you will be doing your residency and when you get your long white coat!

Sarah, it truly was a blessing, honour, and a privilege to love, live with, laugh with, cry with, and serve beside you the past four months. Thank you for loving me well always and always noticing when I wasn’t there we when we’re leaving for ministry.

TEAM TALON
I am so excited to be doing ministry with them during the last few months of the Race. I, unfortunately, won’t be able to get to show my previous teammates why excitement for Eastern Europe since they have been hearing about it all the time. But, I am really excited to be living with three of the guys on the squad (Levi, Christian, and Tyler) and three women that I haven’t been on teams with yet (Sarah Pippin, Ashley, and Charity). While I have lived in the same housing situation with them at least once, I have never been on a team with any of them. It is weird going to be starting from “scratch” at the end of the Race, but it’s worth it.

For our last series of teams, we were given the ability to choose our roles within our teams. So here are my team’s roles:
  • Charity and Tyler- Treasurer
  • Levi- Squad Logistics (still)
  • Christian- Spot Man (he will speak, unless Spirit-led when we are put on the spot to speak)
  • Tyler- Vizard (help us cast vision and communicate with our squad’s leadership team)
  • Ashley- Messenger (encourage us to share our stories from the field)
  • Sarah- Sheepdog (help spiritually shepherd our team)
  • Me- Accountant (help keep the team accountable for the things that we said that we would do//team-leader)

When we were placed into our new teams, we had a parody of the Harry Potter sorting ceremony. My team was given a parodied name of Ravenclaw (Bird Fingers) and we were all stuck on the bird theme when we were deciding our team name (Talon- claw, bird’s “finger”). And, during that debrief and just after, I was reading in Scripture and the Lord just kept drawing my attention to birds. For example, in Luke 12, Jesus gives a parable and uses sparrows to show how much the Father cares for all creatures. He later gives a parable about lilies and ravens, in which Jesus tells His audience of how great their value is to the Lord.

Prayer Requests:

  • I have forfeited my airfare money to return to the States with my squad, so I need to fundraise to get home after my time in Croatia, this will cost at least $500 more dollars,
  • It’s been raining a lot at our base as we are laying concrete so that it will stop raining while we pour & lay the concrete, and
  • A community for the American missionary family that we met the other day and will be seeing again tomorrow & Saturday.
Praise Reports:
  • We recently got back from a small vacation to the Black Sea & it was amazing, and
  • We are halfway through Month 9, have our ministry assignments for Month 10, and know that the entire squad will be ATL (Ask the Lord//no host or housing) for Month 11. Month 10 and 11 will resemble some of what I want to be doing in Croatia in July.
