For those of you who have decided to join me (and others) in praying for the nations, here is January’s update! This month we will be praying for India, the sixth country that I will be traveling to during my World Race. I will be in India during most, if not all, of the month of December.
Here is some information about India, provided from Operation World:
- Geographically and politically dominates South Asia and Indian Ocean,
- Contains 28 union states and 7 union territories,
- The capital is Delhi (in the north) with the other major city (Mumbai) on the Arabian coast (in the west),
- Has a population of more than 1.2 billion; 30% of which live in urban settings,
- Its HDI Rank is 134 of 182,
- Has more than 2,500 people groups that are unreached by the Gospel, nearly 88%,
- Constitutionally lists over 20 official languages, with the most common being Hindi and English, but has 456 languages spoken within the country,
- The most common religion is Hinduism (902 million, 74% of population) with Christianity rising (71 million, 5% of population)
Some challenges to pray over are:
- Training Christian workers for immediate work for a long-term duration (i.e. pastors, teachers, evangelists, and missionaries),
- More seminary graduates opting to serve missionally,
- Equipping Bible schools with the skills to teach ministry work (e.g. church planting) as well as teaching theology,
- Creating and developing training centers for indigenous workers,
- Developing new and creative ways of multiplying leaders,
- Developing tools and equipping Christians with said tools to be embodiments of the Church and to evangelize,
- Rapidly developing house- or cell-church movement, and
- Publication of The South Asia Bible Commentary.
If you need a reminder of praying schedule, you can check out the introductory blog! Or, if you would like to be one of my prayer warriors (intentionally praying over and with me and others about my World Race), you can sign up here (an email list serve to get more information, specifically prayer requests and prayer reports).
God bless,
Angie Moore
