A fellow Racer asked in our group chat yesterday if anyone would like to join her in the Daniel Fast, starting tomorrow (Jan 2). I immediately thought, aren’t I already essentially doing the Daniel Fast? I don’t eat meat or dairy since I’m vegan. Then, I looked into what foods one can eat on the Daniel Fast: fruits & vegetables, whole grains, nuts & seeds, legumes, plant oils, water, and derivative products of all the aforementioned foods. Simply, I can keep eating everything that I have been eating for the past year and a half. But, I kept reading and soon realized that this fast is not as easy as I thought it would be. I realized that I would not be able to eat leavened breads, processed & fried foods, and any sweeteners (sugars). After reading over the food list, I realized that this, even for a vegan, would be a partial fast indeed, and, therefore, a great way to submit my physical desires toward God over the course of 21 days.
I am doing the Daniel Fast with a fellow Racer, and you can join us if you’d like! I would love for any and all to comment below if you’d like to join us in this partial fast, send a word of encouragement, share your experiences with the fast, or point me in the direction of some amazing (ideally vegan) recipes!
Disclaimer: I am not an expert in fasts or partial-fasts or any area of nutrition. All I have is my experience (year and a half vegetarian and another year and a half vegan). This will be my first time doing the Daniel Fast. If you would like more information about the Daniel Fast, you can go here and poke around. Maybe, you will find some resources so that you can do the Daniel Fast too!
