There’s nothing like sitting around a table overflowing with food with your loved ones, whether they are related to yoh or not. Thanksgiving is a great time to be with the ones you love and to express gratitude for them.
While I was not able to be with my biological family this year, I did have a few different opportunities to spend some time around food and the people that I care about. The first was at the school that I am student-teaching at The school hosts a Gratitude Luncheon for the students and their families to come together, spend some time bonding together, expressing gratitude and eating a lot of home-cooked food as a class. And, as a special’s teacher student-teacher, I was assigned to a class essentially to be an extra set of hands, but it was great to spend more time with this class than the typical 40 minutes that I see them per class. The second opportunity was Friendsgiving, essentially Thank dinner but with your friends rather than biological family for those who are not able and/or not going home for the long weekend. It was great to host about ten people, make dinner for them, and also ask for donations to go towards my trip cost! Hours of conversation and games, over food spent with friends who generously gave $50.
Manhattan may not be the hometown, but it has truly become home to me. So, I just wanted to say thank you very, very much to all of those who have made each and every city across the world that I have lived in became home. I also am excited to see the places and the people that I will be calling home over the next year and half!
From the bottom of my heart, with love,
Angie Moore
