This is a thing the Lord inspired me to write the other morning after showing me these verses and helping me to understand that all of creation praises Him, and that we should as well. Hope you enjoy!

Psalms 19:1-4: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world…

Luke 19:40: “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

If we do not praise Him, even the rocks will cry out. For all of creation praises its creator by simply existing, bearing witness to the powerful, almighty hand of He who spoke everything into being out of nothing.

The waves of the ocean crash and roar in constant symphony giving credit to the unending, relentless love of God. Staring off into the distant horizon as the sea tumbles and shifts fills one with conflicting feelings of awe at its vastness and power, but also complete humility at how truly small and insignificant we are compared to its immense size.

The wind too pays homage to The Almighty as it bends and sways the trees in a beautiful dance. It whips around every square inch not leaving one place untouched or unmoved. We are always aware of its presence as we can see and feel its effects all around us, but we can never truly see the wind itself. It alludes to the omnipresent nature of our Father who is always with us even though we do not often see Him.

And have you heard the melodies of birds? What beautiful songs they sing, using the gift they’ve been given to fill their places with beautiful sounds as they gracefully flutter and soar above the earth. Not only the birds though, but all the creatures among us make their voices known. If you turned your ear to the forest you would hear the chorus of a thousand different animals and insects all moving, breathing, and simply existing; bearing witness to their creator. They praise and acknowledge their God by doing and living out the specific purpose and destiny the Lord has willed them to fulfill. Even in the quiet places when you pay close attention you can see and hear creation moving and working as if a finely tuned machine. Take for instance bees. As they fly about from one flower to the next, they inadvertently spread pollen to all the plants they land on, keeping them alive and reproducing. This in turn assures that the flowers continue to bloom and provide beauty to the surface of the world. Like a painting, the earth is covered in vibrant hues and textures applied by the most masterful stroke of a brush.

Finally, one cannot contemplate the true awe and splendor of the earth without considering storms. As if living things, they grow and spread, moving and shifting as they build and collect into massive ominous armies of cloud and darkness. They roll into sight first as a distant rumble and shadow on the horizon, flashing occasionally, giving warning for what’s to come. Slowly and steadily at first the mass grows closer and closer to its observer. Then, all of a sudden, the storm is all around! It shakes the very ground on which you stand as violent displays of lightning smash into the earth, filling the air with heat, light, and electricity. The dark clouds above collide and smash into each other, sending out a sound like an avalanche, rumbling and roaring across the sky. The rain pours down like sheets oppressing all upon which it falls. And can you flee from this unstoppable force bearing down on top of you? What can you do to escape its power and might but to hide in shelter and wait for it to pass? Like a freight train it barrels on after it has overtaken you. This too speaks to the wonder and majesty of our God. To his power, his mighty hand, and his unstoppable, unceasing nature.

However, the One who spoke the universe into motion makes this show of force appear minuscule in comparison. For he spun galaxies together and turned stardust into planets. He formed celestial bodies and keeps the fire of our sun burning even to this day. He who has made all of this, who stands even outside of time itself, created us. Created all the universe for us to inhabit and to witness its majesty. And He loves us. What a ridiculous, inconceivable idea. We see the world around us and know its song as it worships the same God who breathed life into us, who formed us out of dust. How can we stand still and not join nature in praising our wonderful creator? Living in and among all of this beauty, we often forget its source and thus neglect to honor the One who spoke it all into being. We are made in his image and are the pinnacle of his good work, yet we even fail to see our Father’s face in ourselves and in those around us. So if all that exists declares the glory of God, and we are his masterwork, how much greater must He be who made it all out of nothing.  For all of creation is a mirror pointed skyward, reflecting the divine splendor of He who spoke it all into existence. What if we took a second, and looked up?
